In August 2017, Coinmama, a cryptocurrency coin brokerage service, experienced a data breach that had repercussions for approximately 479,000 of its subscribers. This security breach was not detected until February 2019, and it resulted in the exposure of sensitive user information. The compromised data included email addresses, usernames, and passwords. Notably, the passwords were stored as MD5 WordPress hashes, which, from a security standpoint, is not considered a strong method for protecting user credentials. This breach raised significant concerns regarding the security practices of Coinmama and the safety of its users' personal information.
