In April 2019, the PDF management service Lumin PDF experienced a significant data breach. However, the breach was not publicly disclosed until September of that year, when a staggering 15.5 million records of user data surfaced for download on a well-known hacking forum. This incident occurred due to a vulnerability that left the data publicly exposed in a MongoDB instance. Despite allegedly being contacted multiple times about the issue, Lumin PDF reportedly ignored all queries regarding the matter.
The compromised data included authentication tokens, email addresses, genders, names, passwords, spoken languages, and usernames. As a result of this data breach, sensitive information of Lumin PDF users became publicly available, posing potential risks to their privacy and security.
